With a career that spans over 125 films and television shows, Ronny Cox is often ironically identified with the villains he has played in TOTAL RECALL, ROBOCOP and STARGATE. Ronny’s first film was as the guitarist in the famous “dueling banjos” scene in DELIVERANCE. His second big film was BOUND FOR GLORY, Hal Ashby’s film about Woody Guthrie.
The truth is that Ronny has been writing songs and telling stories for over four decades. Only in the last 10 years has the world seen him evolve from being an “actor who sings” into knowing him as a “singer who happens to have a pretty fair career acting.”
““He played slithery corporate snakes in “RoboCop” and “Total Recall;” but as a singer-songwriter, he is a study in easygoing amiability and unforced charisma. He charms crowds with self-teasing humor, tart progressive insight, and a lulling Southwestern folk sound. His repertoire is a smart mix of witty ditties, bluesy swing tunes, heart-on-sleeve romances, and real-life anthems.” — Scott Alarik, The Boston Globe
“…an infectious sense of humor…first rate musicianship, and wonderful sense of storytelling (that) clearly defines ‘performance art’….” — Alan Korolenko, New Bedford Summerfest
“The concert was superb, among the best I have attended.. … engages the audience in a way that takes them back and speaks to their own experiences.” — Sacramento Mountains Historical Museum
Ronny has appeared as a singer-songwriter on:
- The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
- The Bottom Line in New York with Leon Redbone
- National Public Radio, Mountain Stage, with Guy Clark
- National Public Radio E-town with the Roches
- The Berklee College of Music, Boston, with Richard Thompson
- Bluebird Cafe in Nashville with Jellyroll Johnson
- The Great American Music Hall in San Fransisco with the Rankins
- Chautauqua in Boulder, Colo, with Karla Bonoff
- The Crook and Chase Show
- Nashville Now
In his latest album Ronny, Rad and Karen, as well as Songs…With Repercussions, “How I Love Them Old Songs”, “At The Sebastiani”, “Ronny Cox Live”, “Cowboy Savant” and “Acoustic Eclectricity”, Ronny Cox showcases a wonderful acoustic mix of folk, western, jazzy-bluesy and just plain corn ball stuff. By the way, the Karen in the title of his latest album is none other than Door County favorite KAREN MAL.
